Heartworm Hurts - But you can prevent it:

Heartworm disease is a serious and potentially fatal disease caused by a parasitic worm that lives and reproduces in the heart. Both dogs and cats are susceptible - even if they stay indoors. The treatment involves an expensive and painful series of shots that requires hospitalization. However, this disease is easily prevented by simply giving your pet a tasty chewable tablet once a month. Remember, "prevention is the best medicine!" To find out more, click here.

Winter Care for your Pets

While it is best to keep your pets indoors during the winter months, sometimes that is just not possible. If your pet must be outside during the winter, it is very important to provide them with shelter, and a source of fresh, unfrozen water.

Your pet's home should be elevated off the ground to prevent moisture accumulation, and it should have a door to keep out wind, sleet, snow and rain. Their shelter should also be insulated or heated.

Water sources can be heated to keep water from freezing. Thermal units, designed specifically for this purpose, are readily available at most pet supply stores.

Dr. Thomas McCain

My primary goal is to keep your pet healthy. Regular check-ups, dental care, a proper diet and at home prevention will keep your pet healthy and happy for years to come.

You are what you eat. An estimated 45% of US pets are overweight or obese. A balanced diet and exercise is very important for your pet. Obesity can lead to multiple health problems including diabetes, cancer, sore joints, and hypertension. Feeding your pet a well balanced diet (no table scraps please!), and providing your pet with adequate exercise, you can extend your pet's life and happiness.
